I recently heard a radio interview with one of my favorite Canadian bands, the Barenaked Ladies. Much of the discussion concerned their efforts to be carbon neutral by investing in various projects that supposedly offset the greenhouse gases they create while touring.
I’ve been a fan of BNL since they were playing in church basements in Toronto, and I admire their commitment to progressive politics. But I think they should spend a few minutes at www.cheatneutral.com. In addition to being downright hilarious, it is a profound comment on the entire “carbon offset” industry.
One short sample:
“When you cheat on your partner you add to the heartbreak, pain and jealousy in the atmosphere. Cheatneutral offsets your cheating by funding someone else to be faithful and NOT cheat. This neutralises the pain and unhappy emotion and leaves you with a clear conscience.”
