IPCC Releases Report on Climate Change Impact

Working Group II of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change today issued a Summary for Policy Makers based on its forthcoming report, Climate Change Impacts, Adaptation and Vulnerability.

It’s been widely reported that Russia, China and Saudi Arabia (and possibly the U.S.) made a much stronger effort to persuade scientists to water down SPM-2 than they did for SPM-1. But a preliminary review suggests that despite the politicians’ best (worst) efforts, the document is a powerful warning about the dangers of Business As Usual.

We’ll have much more to say about this soon. In the meantime, everyone with any interest in this subject should go directly to the source: download the 23-page Summary for Policy Makers, and view video of the Working Group II Press Conference.

And if anyone tells you the changes aren’t signifucant, refer them to this graphic from the National Environmental Trust, for a summary of the changes expected for each degree of temperature increase.
